Inchydoney Island Lodge and Spa places huge value on its commitment to Responsible Business and the importance of environmental sustainability in the hospitality industry. The hotel is a strong supporter of local issues and plays an active role in the development and enrichment of the community.
Renewable Energy
In 2006, Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa launched one of Ireland’s most innovative environmental heating system projects which involved an investment of over €300,000 to change its heating system to renewable energy sources.
The hotel has developed a combination system of a solar panel, wood pellet boilers and heat recovery systems which will reduce the hotel’s annual fuel bill by over €50,000 and save 495 tonnes of C02 from going into the atmosphere annually.
An 80m2 solar array has been installed in the roof of the new extension which is used to heat the hotel and spa’s water supply. This is the largest commercial installation in Ireland.
Recycling and Waste Management
All bottles and glass are crushed on site and transported to a recycling centre.
The hotel has invested in a Compactor and all cardboard from the hotel and offices is compacted into bails and recycled.
Waste food generated from the Hotel is composted onsite in the hotels own Composter. The resulting compost is then used on the gardens and green areas around the property
Supporting Charities
1% of Revenue is donated to Children’s Charities
Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa recently announced details of its plan to donate 1% of its annual revenue to children’s charities. Overall it is estimated that a sum in the region of €250,000 will be donated to the various charities over the next 3 years. Staff at the hotel were asked to nominate their preferred charity in a bid to determine which organisations would benefit from the hotel’s generous donation. It was decided that the funds will be divided between three very worthy causes - The Bubble Gum Club, GOAL and The Brothers of Charity, Bandon. “The work the chosen charities carry out both locally and internationally is inspiring and we are very happy to contribute to their fundraising efforts and hopefully help make a difference to the lives of those affected.” Des O Dowd, Proprietor.
