Family Fun in Clonakilty

January 12, 2017

From the relative seclusion of our resort, Clonakilty town is only minutes away and is perhaps the liveliest and friendliest town in West Cork.  With a multitude of shops, galleries and restaurants, there is something for all the family to enjoy.  We want to show you how to get the most of your time from your stay with us so kick back, relax and have a read of just some of the many activities to try while you’re here………

Take a trip to the Model Railway Village for a fun and memorable day out on your visit to Clonakilty and West Cork.  Walking into the Model Village you step back in time and see life as it was in the 1940's. See the old West Cork railway line portrayed in delightful miniature serving the towns.  Depicting busy market days, this is a joyful discovery for young and old alike.  Relax in their unique tea room, set on one of the authentic train carriages with a view of Clonakilty bay or take a tour of Clonakilty town aboard the Road Train. Choo Choo!

Be a pirate for the day at the "Smugglers Cove" Golf Adventure Centre in Rosscarbery, only a few minutes drive from Clonakilty.  Overlooking the sea, the main feature is an 18 hole adventure golf course along with the “Smugglers Rest” Café, Adventure Golf, Adventure Maze, Golf Range and Corn Maze (summer only).  It is a fun filled day out for all to enjoy.

Check out all the sights by bike with the Clonakilty Bicycle Scheme.  Launched in 2015, it is the first rural bike scheme in Ireland. You can hire your bike and drop off at a number of collection points around Clonakilty and surrounding areas including the Inchydoney Island Lodge and Spa.  With a great selection of routes long and short, you can enjoy all the fantastic views along our Wild Atlantic Way.

Last but by no means least and a little closer to home, grab a bucket and spade from reception and head for the Number One Beach in Ireland – Inchydoney! With miles and miles of white sand and dunes, why not build a sand castle, take a dip or head to the Inchydoney Surf School.  There are individual lessons, group lessons and summer camps and don’t worry if you’ve never tried it before, Colm and his team will have you surfing your first wave in no time at all.

Drop by reception and any of our team will be able to advise you on all above as well as Kayaking, Whale Watching, Horse Riding and lots lots more!
