Where do you begin with this year’s “A Taste of West Cork Food Festival”? There is something for everyone during this jam packed celebration of West Cork’s tastiest and finest offerings. In our own town of Clonakilty we have a number of exciting events that will be happening over the festival period. To tickle you taste buds here are just a few of the many events taking place.
On Friday September 4th at 11am, we have the Bord Iascaigh Mhara Seafood Workshop. This is a unique opportunity to visit the BIM Development Centre for a tour of the Innovation Centre which will be followed by a tasting of locally sourced seafood. The Clonakilty Food Experience at Spillers Lane on Saturday 5th, between noon and 4pm will showcase the best of our local food and produce. There will be a tasty selection of foods to sample with some choice live music to enliven proceedings. And on Sunday 6th September the local Chamber of Commerce is hosting a foraging expedition in the grounds of Castlefreke Woods where you can learn all about foraging and the abundance of free and fresh produce available in the forests.
Do check out the website www.atasteofwestcork.com as there are loads of exciting food tastings, talks, exhibitions, special dinners, children's events and much more going on all over West Cork. Whatever your palate, there will be something there to excite and tempt you. We can only wish everyone a wonderful festival and offer our congratulations to the organisers on what will be a stunning climax to a hugely successful summer season. Bualadh bos!
And if that was not enough, and if you were still in need of some stimulation, let me tell you that none other than George Hook will be broadcasting his Newstalk Drivetime Show here at the Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa on Thursday 3rd September from 4.30pm to 7pm. You know it won’t be boring or dull. Not with George in the house!
On the same night, we will be hosting our “Taste of West Cork Gala Dinner” which will take our diners on a gastronomic journey through West Cork. The evening will commence with a drinks reception followed by a seven course tasting menu. We know that our Head Chef Adam Medcalf is cooking up something special this year. Inspired by West Cork, his imaginative menu will showcase West Cork’s superb fresh produce and award winning artisan products. We are proud to say that all the ingredients have been sourced within a 50 kilometre radius. And don’t worry, we have a choice selection of delicious wines from Tindal Wine Merchants to compliment Adam’s culinary delights. Tickets are available from reception or can be purchased by phoning 023 8833143. So come join us, West Cork is going to be the centre of the food world and I for one cannot wait to go and taste everything on offer. You might be seeing me in our gym after all is done and dusted! Bon Appetite
